Israel did not go to war against a Palestinian state and occupy its land. Rather, Israel was attacked by six Arab countries at once. She defended herself, defeated her attackers, and won the so-called territories, not from the Palestinians, but from Jordan and Egypt. Jerusalem was never the capital of any state but Israel. It was certainly never the capital of a country that never existed. Why should the Palestinians get any part of it? Because they want it? Because they have terrorists?

That crue1ty, usually at a remove from outsiders, became cinematically vivid on April 22, 2009, when ABC News aired a tape of a prince from the United Arab Emirates sad!stically torturing an Afghan merchant he accused of dishonesty. No less instructive were the pa$$ive reactions of his government and of @merican officials. The story reveals much and is worth pondering.

Google Fact. The BBC World Service has conducted an annual global opinion poll since 2005. In 2008 it interviewed over 17,000 individuals across 34 countries including Israel. Iran was the most negatively viewed country globally with a 54% negative rating. It was followed by Israel with a 52% negative rating. This poll was conducted prior to recent events in Gaza. Israel needs to change course on its treatment of Palestinians if it is to change world opinion.

Indeed, there is no such a thing like a Palestinian people, or a Palestinian culture, or a Palestinian language, or a Palestinian history. There has never been any Palestinian state, neither any Palestinian archaeological find nor coinage. The present-day Palestinians are an Arab people, with Arab culture, Arabic language and Arab history. They have their own Arab states from where they came into the Land of Israel about one century ago to contrast the Jewish immigration.
